What is a Pre-Masters Programme?
A Pre-Masters programme is a preparatory route for graduates who need additional academic, research or English language preparation before starting a UK master's degree. It is designed for students whose first degree was awarded in a different education system, or whose grades or English score fall slightly below direct-entry requirements.
The programme develops the academic writing, critical analysis, referencing and independent research skills expected at postgraduate level, while strengthening subject knowledge in your intended discipline. It is a bridge between an undergraduate qualification and the demands of a master's programme.

How the programme works
Duration and structure
Pre-Masters study normally takes between six months and one year depending on your starting point, English language level and chosen progression route. Teaching combines subject modules, academic skills workshops and supervised project work.
Assessment is assignment based, so you build a portfolio of postgraduate-style work — essays, reports, presentations and a research proposal — rather than relying on end-of-year examinations.

Entry requirements
Pre-Masters applicants normally hold a bachelor's degree or an equivalent Level 6 qualification, together with evidence of English language ability.
- Minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent, with no element below 5.0
- A recognised bachelor's degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification
- Full academic transcripts for your degree
- Curriculum Vitae outlining study and any work experience
- Statement of purpose explaining your postgraduate goals
- Scanned copy of passport and visa
